Expanded-Image Collages
This style of collage is distinctive in the systematic slicing of images into vertical strips that are then separated, and therefore expanded, and interlocked with slices of another expanded image. These pieces are designed to be visually challenging to read. Sometimes one of the images appears as dominant and easier to read while the other is harder to see, and sometimes the two interlocking images are equally complex and require that the viewer work to understand what is being seen. Often a single word has been painted on top of the collage to suggest a concept and to encourage a particular interpretation of the piece.
